Stability of quantum dot-sensitized solar cells: A review and prospects

Abstract
With state‐of‐the‐art quantum dot-sensitized solar cells (QDSSCs) surpassing 15% of power conversion efficiencies (PCEs). Despite current advancements in this field, the poor device stability of QDSSCs remains a substantial barrier that must be overcome for them to be used in large-scale applications and commercialized in the future. This review focuses on the fundamental factors that influence the performance stability of devices, as well as providing insights into the current understanding of the mechanisms that cause their degraded performances. In addition, an understanding of the most cutting-edge strategies for further enrichment in the overall performance stability of QDSSCs is provided in this review, with a particular emphasis on quantum dots (QDs), redox couple electrolytes, the counter electrode (CE), type of substrates, and, device encapsulation. To the best of the author's knowledge, currently, there is no review based on the device degradation mechanisms and performance stability improvement strategies in QDSSCs. Most importantly, in this feature review, we have recommended the standard protocols for stability measurement that have been recently used for halide perovskite solar cells that could be expected to include a couple of new testing methods for the QDSSCs.
