•Effects of different types, levels and exposure duration of construction noise on physiological responses were studied.•Physiological responses including heart rate parameters, RR and EDA were investigated.•Significant effects of construction noise types on heart rate parameters were observed.•Significant effects of exposure duration the physiological parameters were observed.
