Abstract
•The effect of the intermittent opening density on sand 3D printed rock-like is studied.•The crack types and coalescence types are identified by velocity vector analysis.•A DIC-based damge evaluation is proposed to explore the damage evolution of rock.•Mechanical interpretation of the coalescence type is performed using RFPA simulation.
