Numerical investigation on effects of egress flow through different rim seals

•The unsteady simulation method is used to study the flow characteristics of the turbine rim seal.•The aerodynamic performance and flow loss of the turbine cascade with different sealing structures are studied.•The coolant flow significantly affects the mainstream flow field and cascade aerodynamic performance.•The shark nose shape has certain advantages in promoting the egress flow and reducing cascade flow loss.
