•Fires in corridor-like enclosure with lateral openings were studied.•Transition between the fuel-controlled and the ventilation-controlled condition was analyzed.•Temperature profiles in fuel-controlled condition was obtained.•Temperature profiles in ventilation-controlled condition with flame was obtained.•Empirical models were developed to predict the temperature inside the compartment.
