摘要
•5.23 g/cm3 γ-ray shields were developed by hot compacting red mud:Bi2O3 (RMBi) melt.•RMBi block shows 60% attenuation of lead at 1.33 MeV.•RMBi block possess the compressive strength of ≈283 MPa, both at RT and 500 °C.•No leaching of heavy metals from the hot compacted samples.•It can reduce the usage of toxic-lead and accumulation of industrial waste.
