•FUS ablation of superficial canine and feline mammary cancer.•FUS delivered by a 2-MHz single-element spherically focused ultrasonic transducer.•Ablation followed by surgical resection of the entire malignancy.•Histopathology examination demonstrated thermal necrosis in all 9 cases.•Feasibility study in a rabbit thigh model performed prior to pet trial.
