Research on damage effect of the concrete target under the penetration and explosion integration

Considering there’s no mature analysis of the damage effect of concrete under the penetration and dynamic explosion integration, this study proposed the volume filling method-based numerical simulation to realize projectile penetration and dynamic explosion on concrete targets. According to simulation results and dimensional analysis, we studied the damage difference under various penetration and dynamic explosion conditions, and put forward a new penetration dimensionless coefficient as well as an explosion dimensionless correction coefficient, which are suitable for penetration and dynamic explosion.. The results show that the new dimensionless coefficient can better characterize the penetration dynamic explosion damage. The explosion effect is affected by the penetration effect, and the penetration damage evolution isn’t over during the explosion, while the penetration velocity in the explosion impacts both the penetration depth and the explosion stress field. The crater radius and the new penetration dimensionless factor are related in quadratic function, and the crater radius first increases and then decreases with the increase of penetration depth. At a certain depth, the larger the dimensionless explosion correction coefficient, the stronger the dynamic explosion effect, and the larger the depth increment of the dimensionless explosion crater. When the dimensionless explosion correction coefficient increases to a certain extent, the depth increment of the dimensionless explosion crater decreases.
