Investigation of structure and properties of polymerizable deep eutectic solvent based on choline chloride and acrylic acid

•The different sizes of acrylic acid and choline, and interactions between acrylic acid and chloride ions ensure its mixing.•The mixture of acrylic acid and choline chloride has less volume than its individual components.•This excess volume determines the negative value of the enthalpy of mixing and depression of the melting temperature.•Structurally, the mixture is a network with the Cl- ions as nodes connecting the other DES components.•The accounting of excess enthalpy and entropy is required in a simulation for determining deep eutectic solvents properties.
