Two-stage chemical-biological oxidation process for low-grade refractory gold concentrate with high arsenic and sulfur

•An innovative two-stage chemical-biological oxidation process was proposed.•The ferric iron contained in the bio-oxidation waste solution was rationally reused.•Chemical oxidation created some favorable conditions for subsequent bio-oxidation.•Bio-oxidation efficiency of high arsenic and sulfur gold concentrate was increased.
