摘要
•What is the primary question addressed by this study? Do patients with neurocognitive disorders commit crimes after they have received a dementia diagnosis?•What is the main finding of this study? In our large nationwide Finnish register study, the crime rates were lower in the patient groups of Alzheimer´s disease (AD), frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and Lewy body dementias (LBD) than in the same-aged general population, except in the group of FTD women. In comparison between the different neurocognitive groups, we found the highest crime rates in the LBD and FTD groups and in males.•What is the meaning of the finding? The diagnosis of a neurocognitive disorder does not increase criminal behavior and the observed crime incidence was lower than expected.
