Abstract
A study examined the changes in wheat production in Uttar Pradesh state of India and the factors affecting it from 1950 to 2018. The whole period was divided into three parts, Period-I (1950 to 1975), Period-II (1976 to 2000), and Period-III (2001-2018), to analyze instability and sources of growth. Period-I witnessed the highest instability in area and yield, while Period-III witnessed the highest instability in production. Over the years, the contribution of yield towards change in production had declined while that of the area had increased substantially. A positive trend was observed for area, production and yield.
