Health service forum for health students: simulation and emulation!

Since the beginning of the student health service (SSES) in 2018, nearly 50 000 students conduct health promotion activities in the general population each year. In Rennes, a pedagogical device has been set up for medical and maieutic students. Divided into groups of three, the students are guided by a tutor who is an intern in general practice or public health. The students are trained to develop the skills necessary for the development, implementation and evaluation of their health promotion activities, with a variety of audiences, and on priority public health themes. Each year, a "forum day" is organized to simulate action projects and meet health promotion professionals. Planning. This forum allows students to experiment with part of the intervention they have designed before carrying it out at their place of assignment. It allows the supervisors to ensure that the intervention projects are consistent with the objectives of the SSES and the expectations of the host institutions. It represents a strong time of meeting and exchange for the intern tutors and for the groups of students they support. Implementation. The student groups, accompanied by their intern tutors, are divided into different rooms, each with a facilitator, an expert on the target audience and an expert in health promotion. Each trio of students performs a sequence of their intervention in front of the other groups of students for 15 minutes followed by a debriefing. Evaluation. An evaluation of student satisfaction is conducted via an online survey. In 2021, 95.3% of the students who responded found this day useful. An evaluation of the forum by its speakers was carried out by a brainstorming session: their feelings were very positive, the adjustments were minor, and an improvement from year to year in the quality of the students' interventions was highlighted.
