Abstract
•Apparent Thermal Inertia (ATI)-based soil moisture downscaling methods suffer from the vegetation effect problem.•A vegetation adjusted method for ATI-based satellite soil moisture downscaling is proposed.•The satellite soil moisture product was bias-corrected before downscaling.•The downscaled 1 km resolution soil moisture is nearly unbiased and free of vegetation effect.
