Abstract
Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are a heterogeneous group of conditions affecting the temporomandibular joints, the masticatory muscles and the adjacent structures. The aim of this observational study was to asses if there is a positive correlation between the presence of dental and periodontal lesions and dysfunctional occlusal contacts in patients diagnosed with TMD. 20 adult patients diagnosed with TMD were included and 460 teeth were evaluated in terms of noncarious lesions and gingival recessions. Static and dynamic occlusion were assessed. In patients diagnosed with TMD, the presence of dental and periodontal lesions are corelated with various pathological occlusal patterns.
