Structural Optimization of the Rotor of Traveling Wave Hollow USM

Aerospace is one of the high-tech fields in today's world. As the carrier of space applications, various types of spacecrafts are widely equipped with a variety of high-precision and long-life space mechanisms to meet the needs of different application scenarios. As the driving source of the motion of various space mechanisms, the motor plays a vital role in the comprehensive performance of the space mechanism. The experimental results are listed as follows. 1) Under the excitation voltage of 500 V PP , the optimal driving frequency of the optimized rotor is 26.6 kHz, the maximum locked-rotor torque is 1.5 Nꞏm, and the maximum speed is 53 RPM. 2) When the load of the previous generation USM is 0.7 Nꞏm and the speed is 18 RPM, the efficiency is the highest, which is 10.3 %. The USM with the optimized rotor achieves the highest efficiency of 18.6% when the load is 0.7 Nꞏm and the speed is 24 RPM. Compared with the previous motor, the efficiency has increased by 80.6%.
