•This study examined the prevalence of social stigma experienced by healthcare workers (HCWs) at a tertiary-referral cancer centre who developed COVID-19.•A substantial proportion of HCWs reported negative social experiences including social distancing, harassment and neighborhood tensions.•The extent of stigmatization was inversely correlated with socioeconomic status.
