Corrosion behaviour of P-91 steel and type 316 LN stainless steel with and without a ceramic coating in the lead with oxygen at 550°C

•Molten lead corrosion test of coated and uncoated P-91 steel and 316LN SS are investigated.•Dissolution and oxidation are the corrosion mechanism of P-91 steel and 316LN SS.•In 316LN SS, the corrosion rate gradually lower over time, and ferritization occurs in the dissolution region.•The durability of the ceramic coating on P-91 is better than 316LN SS in molten lead.
