The role of miR-155 on liver diseases by modulating immunity, inflammation and tumorigenesis

•The mechanistic of miR-155 contributions in immunity and inflammation of liver diseases, mainly manifested by mediating the activation of immune cells to lead to cytokine overexpression and immune imbalance.•The high expression of miR-155 interferes with the cell cycle to facilitate cell proliferation, drives cancer cell migration and invasion, and helps tumors achieve immune escape in liver cancer.•miR-155 is also a potential biomarker to predict liver diseases and tumors.
