Abstract
•Usage of a hybrid genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimization method led to higher performance of metasurfaces.•Metasurface-based Dammann grating for generating wide-angle spot arrays with efficiency approaching 90% and uniformity error lower than 4.67% has been demonstrated.•The intensity distributions of the spot arrays can be modulated through the optimization method.
