Abstract
•β-SiAlON was synthesized by bauxite, Si and Al at 1773 K in N2 atmosphere.•Glass film on β-SiAlON particle surface was formed.•Oxidation curves of β-SiAlON particles were in parabolic.•Smaller β-SiAlON particles had larger surface area and easy to be oxidized.•Smaller β-SiAlON particles had lower oxidation activation energy.
