Abstract
This paper presents the development of an aviation combustion noise research facility for Rich-Quench-Lean combustors. The paper begins with a description of the physics that are considered under the umbrella of combustion noise. Next, the paper discusses the design considerations for the combustion test facility. Initial results are presented along with a discussion of the challenges and shortcomings of the initial experiments. The paper concludes by detailing the re-design and re-manufacture of the test facility, the improved results, potential direct noise generation sources, and the lessons learned for combustion noise generation. The novelty of this paper is the detailed design details for a combustion noise test platform that will produce a train of research results, as well as initial results and learnings from this platform.
