•Self-reported hunger and desire to eat something tasty did not change after tDCS.•Energy and macronutrient intake were not altered after tDCS.•Mood states did not change after tDCS.•a-tDCS over the left DPFC showed a trend towards to decrease implicit wanting for low-fat savory food.•future studies with feed participants, multisession stimulations, and other montages may be tested in an attempt to alleviate mood and appetite disturbances that occur in luteal phase of the menstrual cycle.
