Correlates of non-receipt of formal mental health services among Australian men experiencing thoughts of suicide

•415 Australian men with past-year suicidality completed an online survey.•42.4% of participants had not received formal mental health services in the past year.•Men not receiving services were less likely to have a diagnosis and suicide plans.•No demographic variables were associated with service use.•Interpersonal support and certain coping styles were correlates of service use.
