•Two patient decision aids (PtDAs) were developed, tested and implemented.•A PtDA development model and the IPDAS criteria were useful as frameworks.•Collaboration of patients and clinicians were pivotal for implementation.•The national Danish ovarian cancer guidelines links to the two developed PtDAs•SDM and implementation of PtDAs has proven useful in real-world settings.
