We report on how a p-phase defect in a two-mode Kerr cavity leads to flip-flopping dynamics and self-symmetrization, enabling spontaneous symmetry breaking with unprecedented robustness. Experiments performed with homogeneous and localized states confirm our predictions. (C) 2021 The Author(s)
