Abstract
In this paper, two millimeter-wave transitions from dielectric rectangular waveguide (DWG) to Microstrip line (MSL) are designed at V-band (50-75GHz) for contactless excitations using the dielectric probe device. The aim of the transitions is to allow contactless measuring for MSL-based technology integrated systems using the low cost dielectric probes. The proposed designs use high resistivity silicon waveguide probes and the MSL transition boards are fabricated on Rogers3003 substrate using laser machining. The transitions are designed for exciting differential and single MSLs. The simulated results show successful coupling between the DWG and the MSL modes for both structures with back-to-back insertion losses of 1.52dB and 2.8dB respectively at 65 GHz. The two designs are fabricated, tested and the experimental measurements strongly agree with the simulated designs.
