•Commercial plant extracts have been successfully applied as an antioxidant in MDPM.•TBARS values, pH, and color of MDPM were affected by extract concentration.•Grape, rosemary, green tea and mate extracts were the most effective in inhibiting lipid oxidation in MDPM.
