Modulation of the non-target phytotoxicity of glyphosate by soil organic matter in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) plants

•The role of organic matter (OM) in the modulation of GLY toxicity was disclosed.•Soil enrichment with OM (10 and 15%) helped to prevent GLY non-target phytotoxicity.•GLY evoked an increase of lipid peroxidation, hydrogen peroxide and proline.•GLY-induced oxidative stress was prevented in soils with a higher content of OM.•Soil amendment with organic residues may prevent GLY risks to non-target plants.
