Application of tyre derived pyrolysis oil as a fuel component

•The trend in the number of waste tyres is increasing. One of the most promising ways of utilization is recycling for energy recovery. In this study, slow pyrolysis of waste tyres was conducted in a low tonnage industrial unit.•Pyrolytic oil was separated by a single condensation atmospheric distillation into 3 fractions, which were analyzed as a fuel component.•The obtained test results were compared to the fuel oil requirements (DSTU 4058-2001). That the pyrolytic oil fraction boiling >200°C matches the Ukrainian requirements for fuel oil types 40 and 100, while two others pyrolytic-oil fractions may be an interesting raw material for the production of aromatics.
