•A coefficient matrix containing the packet dropping variable is designed.•Novel RMEEPDKF and RMEEPDSKF are derived by using the robust MEE instead of MMSE.•The RMEEPDKF and RMEEPDSKF have superior estimation performance in handling impulse noise.
