Abstract
•Ultra-thin plies and scale effect motivate this dynamic experimental work.•Cross-ply laminates are tested under tension–tension cyclic loading.•90° layer thickness is decreased, using a 30 g/m2 carbon/epoxy prepreg.•Transverse damages densities are charted up to 105–106 cycles.•Fatigue damage mechanisms change involving an ultra-thin 90° layer.
