Abstract
A series of feasibility tests were carried out to validate a new procedure for functionalization of hydroxyapatite with silver nanoparticles before incorporation as fillers in dental materials. The proposed functionalization route is environmental friendly, did not involve radiations or other chemicals that may trigger supplementary medical concerns. A one-shot, as well as a two-step technique was attempted. The chemical composition, morphology, size and topology of resulting products have been analyzed through spectral and electron microscopy techniques.
