A coarse grain model with parameter scaling of adhesion forces from liquid bridge forces and JKR theory in the discrete element method

•A scaling law for combination of liquid bridge forces and JKR theory is developed.•A scaling law for adhesion forces is derived supposing the energy conservation.•The developed model is validated with the experiments in a pan-type pelletizer.•The adequacy of the coarse grain model is quantitatively verified.•The proposed coarse grain model could contribute to simulating fine wet particles.
