Abstract
•Oxygen isotope labeling and reaction quenching technique is applied to model TWC.•Oxygen storage process in model TWC is visualized with 100-nm-scale resolution.•Presence of Pd enhances surface 18O concentration and diffusion depth into CZ bulk.•Favored oxygen vacancy formation on CZ near the Pd cluster is supported by DFT.•Oxygen release/storage simulation provides reasonable local kinetic parameters.
