•Bi2WO6/g-C3N4 had better visible light photocatalytic activity than Bi2WO6/TiO2.•Bi2WO6/TiO2 performed better than Bi2WO6/g-C3N4 under solar simulated irradiation.•The photocatalytic degradation of Cefixime was green.•S-scheme Bi2WO6/TiO2 and Bi2WO6/g-C3N4 are green heterojunctions.•Artificial neural networks precisely simulated the experiments.
