Cardiac myxoma with atypical cell population mimicking malignancy – a diagnostic pitfall

•A case is reported of left atrial myxoma showing unique histological findings with two distinct regions.•One region displays typical myxoma histology, and the other sarcoma or melanoma-like features.•The results suggest its reactive/degenerative nature in the setting of inflammatory and posthaemorrhagic changes.
