Abstract
A liquid crystal substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) leaky wave antenna based on the theory of holographic is proposed in this article. The proposed leaky-wave antenna uses the tunable characteristics of liquid crystals to control the radiation power of each unit by changing the dielectric constant of the liquid crystal. The proposed holographic antenna achieves a beam scanning range of −45° −51° at 35 GHz with a maximum gain of 9.8dB and a reflection coefficient of less than −10dB. The antenna consists of a SIW etched with 32 slot units, a liquid crystal layer and a patch array. The patch acts as a radiation unit and also provides a bias voltage for the liquid crystal. Different from the traditional SIW leaky-wave antenna, the proposed antenna can realize fixed-frequency beam scanning at a large angle, meeting the needs of 5G communication systems.
