Preliminary evaluation of a novel secondary check tool for intensity modulated radiotherapy treatment planning

•Independent dose calculation methods show many advantages in QA program.•Monte Carlo algorithms are acceptable independent dose calculation method.•Delta4 Insight is a new commercial secondary check tool based on a MC Engine.•Delta4 Insight provides a useful independent secondary dose verification system for IMRT plans and its clinical validation has not yet been reported.
