Abstract
Model-driven automatic code generation has received wide attention from both academia and industry. The success of the code generation highly relies on the accuracy of models that are mostly designed manually. Designing a precise model is not only a time-consuming task but also requires continuous maintenance. Engineers have to gather necessary information from mechanical, electrical and software design documents such as production processes, workshop layout, and workshop equipment. Therefore, this paper proposes a method to automatically elicit requirements from graphical design documents and generate control applications for module-based automation systems. An extension to the VDI/VDE/NAMUR 2658 standard and ANSI/ISA-88 is introduced to cover discrete manufacturing systems. An example of a packaging system is used to illustrate the idea. Workstations can be easily orchestrated based on the Module Type Package.
