摘要

•Mg/Al LDH-SHMP adsorbent was fabricated using the co-precipitation approaches.•The adsorption amount of Pb2+ and Cd2+ on Mg/Al-LDH-SHMP was remarkably high.•The adsorption mechanisms of Pb2+ and Cd2+ were extensively discussed.•The adsorption was found to have a close match with the famous models.•The adsorption reaction was non-spontaneous, endothermic, and unpredictable.
