Drowned in granite - retrieving the tectono-metamorphic history of the Janub metamorphic complex, the northernmost part of the Arabian-Nubian Shield

•A volcano-sedimentary arc sequence was regionally metamorphosed between 618 and 615 Ma.•Intrusions at 615 Ma and 605–596 Ma triggered thermal overprint.•Subduction and final assembly of Arabian-Nubian Shield continued until 615 Ma.•The final assembly was followed by extensional shearing (615–605 Ma) and exhumation.•A 590 Ma brittle shearing is interpreted as Najd fault system related structure.
