TRENDS AND OUTCOMES FOR PRE-IMPLANTATION GENETIC TESTING FOR MONOGENIC DISORDERS IN THE UNITED STATES, 2014-2018

First used in 1990, preimplantation genetic testing for monogenic disorders (PGT-M), screens embryos for single-gene diseases after in vitro fertilization (IVF). To date, more than 200 diseases have been targeted. Preimplantation genetic testing for monogenic disorders allows testing for fatal or debilitating disease before implantation and is an alternative to invasive prenatal diagnostic techniques (1).
