A cellular automata approach for modelling pedestrian-vehicle mixed traffic flow in urban city

•A pedestrian-vehicle coupling model with high simulation accuracy is proposed.•Six phase regions were acquired from the heterogeneous traffic phase diagram.•Obtained the difference between the fundamental diagram of heterogeneous and homogeneous traffic.•Tighter speed limits and wider sidewalks can reduce traffic conflicts.
