Abstract
This paper analyzes the economic competitiveness of alternative sources of renewable energies in Brazil, notably onshore wind and solar photovoltaic. The LCOE (Levelized Cost of Energy) metric is used as criterion for comparison with other electricity generating sources present in the Brazilian energy matrix. Different time horizons (short, medium and long term) are considered. In doing so, the study aims to understand the current situation of competitiveness and investment attractiveness of wind and solar energies, and identify possible avenues for the development of these sources over time. The findings in both the medium and long term corroborate the hypothesis of cost competitiveness gains with technological advances and economies of scale in the sector.
