摘要

•The existing cyanide chromogenic probe is used for the detection of Hg2+ ions.•The 1:1 binding stoichiometric ratio of the probe with Hg2+ ions were supported by 1H NMR titration, DFT, and Jobs plot.•The detection limit of the probe for Hg2+ ion is 0.62 μM.•The probe was applicable in Molecular logic gates, test strips, and water sample analyses.
