EEG measures of attention toward food-related stimuli vary with food neophobia

•We studied how EEG brain potentials toward food stimuli vary with food neophobia.•Late positive potential amplitude toward food pictures increase with food neophobia.•Inter-subject correlations toward a food movie increase with food neophobia.•Results indicate that food neophobia increases attention to familiar & unfamiliar food.•Food neophobia affects processing of food regardless of familiarity from early on.
