Ultrasound Tactile Presentation to Shielded Areas Using Curved Reflectors

Abstract
The Airborne Ultrasound Tactile Display (AUTD) produces tactile sensation remotely on a human skin by controling the sound pressure distribution. However, it is difficult to produce tactile sensation to areas which are shielded from ultrasound. In this paper, we propose a method for produce tactile sensations to shielding areas by using curved reflectors. Using a hand and reflectors shape as mesh models enables to calculate contribution from reflection on curved reflectors. Fast Multipole Method (FMM) reduces memory usage and it enabled calculation. By simulations and experiments, we confirmed the feasibility of producing focal point by using reflection on curved reflectors.
