Abstract
Workplace accidents (WA) are a huge challenge facing companies today due to the negative impact on their operations and productivity. The growth in the number of WA at agro-food company over the past four years motivated this study, the objective of which was to determine the etiological factors and the financial cost.Method. - This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study, relating to WA data recor-ded in the period from January 01, 2016 to December 31, 2019. All files providing information on human, organizational and environmental factors were included. The data collected were analyzed with the R 3.6.0 software. The CHI2 test allowed comparisons with a threshold of 5 %.Results. - A total of 314 victims were included including 14 women. The mean age was 36.54 +/- 7.28 years. The prevalence of WA was 31.30%. The victims were the executing agents and those with less than 10 years of professional experience in 93.31% and 83.44% of the cases. Compliance with work procedures and machine maintenance reduced the risk of TA by 52% (OR = 0.48; P < 0.001) and 63% (OR = 0.37; P < 0.00) respectively. The WA resulted in a total of 4.866 days off work and a financial cost of 17,221,192 FCFA.Conclusion. - The prevalence of WA was high as was the number of work days lost and the finan-cial cost. The development of procedure manuals to be followed and the regular maintenance of machines are preventive measures adapted to the company.
