Abstract
•A “turn on” fluorescent probe based on dicyanoisophorone and 2-hydrazylpyridine was synthesized conveniently.•The probe can be able to rapidly detect Zn2+/Cd2+ through the near-infrared fluorescence (668 nm).•The probe can be used not only to detect Zn2+/Cd2+ in water, but also to realize visual fluorescence imaging of Zn2+/Cd2+ in living cells.
